DEAR DIARY,

It's been an exciting couple of "Ember" months so far. Here's a lowdown of my last 4 months in 2018.

SEPTEMBER

Skepticism: At the beginning of the month, I began to have doubts, not about my faith, but about my religion. Fake pastors, hassling for too much money in the name of tithes, offering and “I love my pastor” (L. M. A. O.), occult arts in the church, 24hour-long church services (I exaggerate, but in Nigeria you can spend a whole day in church without achieving anything else with your daily hours), deceit. We all know that this list is very long. So afterwards I began to wonder if switching to Islam would be a bad idea or not. In my honest opinions, Muslims always seem very rich to me, they keep to their prayer routines very strictly (a routine would make it so much easier than the Christian anywhere, anytime) and I could take the opportunity to learn that Hausa that I’ve been learning since Primary 4. But then I thought naaaaaa; with the way I see myself as very fashion forward, I wouldn’t survive a day in the Muslim woman dress code. So there will be no Young and Hungry Muslim taking over, don’t worry😉

Entered Lagos again: after getting accused of touring Nigeria from one state to another (it was just three states, people!)

Pinkberry: Discovered that Pinkberry sells wayyyy better desserts than Coldstone or Hans and Renee’s on any given day. Argue with your own mouth😝

Took my cousin to secondary school for the first time: This day reminded me of my own first day in secondary school. I was okay when my mum was leaving, but later was when I began to shed serious tears of reverse joy. I can sincerely say that I never ever resumed school 100% happily, but I’m glad that’s all a throwback now😁

Education: I started getting some education at a real law firm so that I could decide if that’s really what I want to do. Doesn’t it scare you sometimes, that after spending 4/5/6 years of your life studying something in university, you might not even end up doing it as a job? Like why even waste your time? Stay in school though abeg. Don’t drop out and say I said…

Mimi’s birthday: My lovely cousin turned 26. I remember a time when I was 8 and very mischievous and she was 16 and hopelessly in love with Rihanna. We’re growing old!😭😭😭

Bestest’s birthday: We all have that one person whose everything is our everything too. So yeah it was my birthday on the 26th of this month😜. Here’s to the nights that turned to mornings with the friends that turned to family💘 (P.S. Is bestest a word? If it isn’t, it should be)

Entered a covenant with myself: Never lose yourself in search for another. Never belittle your essence in search for love that doesn’t even choose you or chooses you on some days- when they so please. Someone that loves you will not be that selfish👌

Remarkably launched my new blog, if I do say so myself ✨✨✨

OCTOBER

October technically isn’t even an Ember month (it ends with “ober”). But then just because you don’t fit in wherever you are doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. Wherever you find yourself, you’re there for a reason, so quite whining about how disadvantaged you are and look on the bright side. Now here’s how my October went.

CanaanLand: I traveled all the way to Ogun state for my friends’ matriculation. Congratulations to my Partner-In-Crime💕, Lady Swangwu💃, Jidora💛, Cynthia Onuo💜, Sprite👽, Nebee🐝, Jess🎨, Water girl💦 and all those I haven’t mentioned but still love a bunch. Watch out for my own matriculation, guys😂

Taeo finished with NYSC: So unlike some of our government officials in this country, my sister won’t need to forge her certificate #PrayforNigeria (And yes, we turned 58 this month😢)

Opening new paragraphs in my chapter: Two things; I learned how to drive (I believe if you can successfully drive in Lagos, you can fly a NASA rocket). And then my friend, Jo, spent a weekend in my house and after dancing Kupe in the pool, I finally started figuring out the oh-so difficult mechanics of swimming. I finna be a pro one day. Watch out! 2022 Olympics OTW🏊😂

Birthdays: Another edition of Nana x Nife💚💛 Quote and unquote- “Love does make you do the craziest shit. Or in my case, stick with the craziest people.”

Everywhere STEW💦💦

Renewal of the countdown: I finally received my admission letter, whoop! Thinking about it, a few months back I was counting down 76 days till graduation, and here I am again, about to begin another countdown to yet another graduation😀

NOVEMBER

Nigeria in distress: with the thunder of ASUU at work again, rumours that our president is a clone and this whole 2019 election fiasco, we really need to commit ourselves like Pencils in the Hand of the Creator.

Official University babe: As I have received my matriculation number this month, await my own matriculation day guys😉. God-willing though, let me not hype it so much that it'll come and be a disaster.

Vaccinated: We should all learn to take good care of our health; I know as a teenager I sometimes tend to get too lazy or just decide not to care, but remember- health is wealth, and who doesn’t like money in this Nigeria biko?

Enormous CONGRATULATIONS: to all my babes and boos who got matriculated this month, and to all my babes and boos who got an age +1 this month as well💫

Mother Appreciation: Appreciate your parents, kids. They make a lot of sacrifices in this life for you. BTW, the Mama wrItor dropped by in Lagos for a week and she came bearing gifts. I love you, Mum💗💗💗

Brand new wrItor machine: Meaning updates might be more frequent. Who knows?

Entering into December: Stay safe everyone. December is a month of no smiling. People are searching for ego december everywhere and most of their means aren’t legitimate. Still, don’t let that hinder your turn-up abeg. Life is for the living and you’ll regret it if you enter your 2019 without a little gbedu💃

Registration: The lead-up to my University babe status. Am I the only one who spoilt my shoe because of running up and down to complete school registration?

DECEMBER (FORECASTS)

DOAYAHC: pronounced /duyak/. Meaning: It has none in the dictionary. The same way the titles of Nigerian mainstream songs don't have any meanings. P.S. Did you realize on sight that that is the title of my blog?😁

Eat food: Which do you prefer? Christmas Jollof rice or New Years’ Jollof rice? Personally, I can’t wait to eat them all😋

Celebrate, Jesus Celebrate! As a Christian, don’t forget the main reason for the season🎄

Entering a New Year: If you have ever written an actual list of resolutions for a new year, I’m pretty sure 90% of you lose that list by the time January is over. For those of you who this might work for, I tell you most solemnly that you are lucky. But for those of us who can’t keep to lists like that, just “take it take it to the Lord in prayer”🎶

Meet new people, make new friends: Don’t forget to spread some love this Christmas💖

Boys ain’t smiling: I reload! STAY SAFE. But have a lovely holiday, spend time with friends and family, and at the end of it all-

Enjoy yourself!

Resolution (New Year): Just look in the mirror and resolve to be a better version of the person you see in it. It’s achievable, you don’t have to waste paper and ink and if you change your mind nobody will know, it’s between you and yourself😉

So dear readers, have a wonderful countdown towards year end🌈

xoxo
The wrItor✨
